Adjusting geographical coordinates

The Geographical coordinates dialog box allows you to automatically or manually adjust the location of the observation.

Using GPS

If the equipment has an integrated GPS, WinStars will use it to obtain an accurate position of where you are. If your machine does not have a GPS sensor, WinStars will try to use the geographical location of your Internet access to determine your position. Under Windows, it is necessary to check in Settings/Confidentiality/Location if the option “Allow applications to access your location” is checked.

Manual adjustment

By choosing the second option, the user can manually enter his geographical coordinates or use the map to specify his location. By using the mouse wheel or using two fingers on an Android terminal, it is possible to zoom in/out on the map and move in all directions. Acting on the map automatically changes the geographical coordinates and vice versa.

It is also possible to define its time zone in order to take the longitude of the observation place into consideration correctly.

Finally, the field entitled “place” helps to locate a specific place on the map (city, town, place, etc….).
