The planetarium mode allows you to view the celestial vault on a given date from a specific terrestrial location. By default, WinStars uses the system time and GPS position to automatically access these parameters. If you want to set them manually, it is necessary to refer to the sessions Time and date setting and Adjusting geographical coordinates.

It is necessary to check that the operating system’s default settings correctly manage the user’s geographical coordinates. For example, on Windows, we will go to System Settings, Location and check Allowing applications to access your location. On Android, make sure to activate the GPS integrated into the device.

You can check the geographical coordinates by right-clicking on an object and choosing the option Information.

The coordinates of the observation location are indicated in plain text.

In planetarium mode, it is possible to zoom in on a part of the starry sky using the mouse wheel or using the + or - keys on the keyboard. You can also display digitized images of the sky by activating the: doc:DSS function <dss> (Digitized Sky Survey) and calculate the rises and sets of the main objects of the solar system. Finally, the function ephemerides allows to know the next significant events visible from the observation site.
