Planets

• Show the planets’ names:

• Show planets`location: geological formations (mountains, craters, plains), plus cities, countries and oceans (for Earth).

• Atmospheres/clouds: shows the effects of atmospheric diffusion in the planetarium mode. In the 3D navigation mode, displays an Earth with its cloud cover and blue atmosphere.

• Cloud shadows: improves the appearance of the terrestrial cloud cover.

• Reflection: activates the reflection of sunlight on the Earth’s oceans.

• Show orbits: currently only displays the orbits of the 8 planets of the solar system and Pluto [1].

• Show high resolution textures: this option is only available in the full version of WinStars. The surfaces of the Earth, Mars and the Moon then appear much more detailed.

• Bump mapping: improves the rendering of shadows on the planet’s surface.

Pluto was discovered in 1930, and until 2006, it was the ninth planet in the solar system. Since 2006, it has been reclassified as a “dwarf planet”.
