1. Who are we?
The website https://winstars.net and the WinStars software (Windows, Android, Linux, Raspberry Pi) are published free of charge, on a personal basis, by Franck Richard, who is the controller of the data processing described below. Contact: franck.richard@winstars.net
2. What we collect
On the website. We measure traffic with Matomo, an analytics tool that we host ourselves: no data is transmitted to any third party. The following is recorded: pages viewed, date and time, browser and system type. IP addresses are anonymized by Matomo before being stored. Detailed data about each visit is automatically deleted after 180 days; only aggregated statistics, which do not allow any visitor to be identified, are kept beyond that period.
In the application.
- Location: the application uses your device’s position solely to display the sky corresponding to your location. This data is processed locally on your device. It is not stored, not sent to our servers, and not shared.
- Usage statistics: at launch, the application sends a single letter indicating the platform (A = Android, W = Windows, L = Linux), in order to get a rough idea of how the software is used. Your IP address is not collected with this information, and no identifier or location data is transmitted.
3. Cookies
The website only uses cookies necessary for its operation (session, preferences, security) and Matomo’s audience measurement cookie, configured with IP address anonymization, for strictly statistical measurement. You can refuse cookies in your browser settings; the website will remain accessible.
4. Data sharing
We do not sell or share your data. It is disclosed only if required by law.
5. Legal basis
Audience measurement is based on our legitimate interest in understanding how the website and software are used in order to improve them. Location is used with your permission, which you grant in your device settings and may withdraw at any time.
6. Your rights
You may request access to, rectification of, or erasure of your data, or object to its processing, by writing to franck.richard@winstars.net. You may also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr).
7. Security
We implement reasonable measures to protect data, but no transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
8. Children
The service is general-purpose, and we do not knowingly collect any personal data from children.
9. External links
The website may contain links to other sites whose practices we do not control.
10. Changes
This policy may change. The version in force is the one published on this page, with its effective date.
